Zeus,
I am prepared to withdraw from helping you get this blog going in your efforts to make a difference in Prosser if you insist on leaving posters like tapdance free to attack me while I hold to your stated rules and purpose. Either eliminate this poster or level the playing field, although I am not interested in carrying on a debate on his level anyway. If you allow tapdance's type of postings your blog will fail or just be a collection of insulting posters looking for verbal confrontations. I don't know what your liability is, but allowing defamation of character and libelous statements to remain here on your forum certainly must at the very least leave you open for some sort of civil action. Poster like tapdance is probably the reason why you don't see a lot of these types of blogs started. It takes a lot of work and a firm hand.
I suspect you are out of town on vacation as you surely would have deleted these tapdancer posts and bared this person by now even under the laxest of rules.
It is my hope you straighten this poster out or ban the individual altogether. The ball is in your court. _________________ Larry Brunelle

Wah!
It sucks when you're held accountable doesn't it. The mirror hurts.
Make your font a little bigger Larry. Shout a little louder. |

Larry,
I do not have time to check the blog everyday, hence the delay in response. I hope that you would not truly think that I would be held responsible for another users post, and certainly if your post was to be construed as a possible threat of legal action it was not appreciated.
If you feel you have become a victim of defamation, or libelous comments you are free to walk away at any point, and obviously you are using this site at your own free will.
Upon review, the poster has been temporarily banned until further notice. _________________ -Zeus |

Thank you Zeus for taking care of this situation. No, I was not threatening you with civil action but merely raising the subject for your consideration. Your position is of your own choosing also and I would think you would want to limit what is posted here just like a newspaper controls what is printed within their paper. If you do not intend on checking and eliminating offensive, libelous, etc postings as quickly as they appear, you're inaction may potentially be damaging to the very posters you have encouraged to join you here. One never knows if someone out there believes the trash that is posted at times on blogs. I do not know if court cases have been decided on content of blogs one way or the other. One of the reasons I have not started a blog is for this very problem.
I do not mind humor or sarcasm. I find mtextra's post above humorous. It is not attacking me, just expressing his opinion anonymously, whereas tapdance was well past humor or sarcasm or just expressing opinions. Alleging criminal offenses is way over the line.
If you don't have the time to check this blog on a daily basis, I would suggest bringing on a partner that shares your interest to help monitor this site. It is your site and obviously it is up to you. tapdance will probably return under another name as was the case on the TCH's forums when similar vitriolic trolls, disruptive posters, were banned there.
Again, I believe your blog is supposed to be about Prosser. Not about me. If I am wrong I will refrain from posting further. In the meantime I will renew my efforts to help make Prosser a better place and post my thoughts and concerns from time to time in hopes of stirring up some quality debate. This town if full of intelligent people and hopefully some will join in the discussions here. So far, nobody has countered any of my statements on how Prosser government treats its citizens. I guess everyone knows how true my observations are.
Note: I use the larger font as I have trouble reading the 'normal' font and I am sorry if that troubles mtextra. It is not a question of shouting but a question of readability. My eye sight is not getting any better.
Thanks again for your actions. _________________ Larry Brunelle

Larry,
You are welcome. I would like to respond to part of your post:

I would like to ask you to extend the same courtesy to public officials as well, when speaking about a City employee (given they are a public official and subject to a degree of criticism) I ask that you limit singling out a public official on an individual basis and concentrate on your thoughts about the city government, not individuals that you may have had run-ins with.
I think it would be for everyone's benefit if we could eliminate the "he said/she said" in our posts, as this became a problem on previous blogs, and our goal here should be constructive criticism not name calling etc, if possible, I would like to see user's comments backed up with physical proof before they speak, granted this may not always been feasible in every situation, but the more this practice can be applied the more strong our debates can be, and less off topic chatter and name calling. I will do my best to keep all debates on track.
Thank you. _________________ -Zeus |
