We purchased 4 new tires for our Suburban and as part of the purchase there is a paper guaranteeing us free tire rotations, balance when needed, and other services. Friday I took it in for rotation. No rotation. Instead a bill for supposed repairs needed for over $1000. Great service and the loss of another customer. Would not rotate or balance the Wild Country tires installed.
Went to a local car dealership during the famous get rid of the gas guzzlers trade in deal. Same Surbuban, 15 MPG, 90 year made, met all of the requirements. Dealer had a new car at a different location so put down all of the figures. Used the full sticker price, used the max $4500.00 on the junque list, then ADDED over $3000 for Dealer prep and delivery.
We still have the Suburban and are now talking to a dealer in Yakima who is not adding little(?) charges already included in the sticker price.
Local merchants? Yes, we still go to the Post Office. |

Les - if those so called needed repairs were performed without your authorization, you may have recourse. That same business has also lost me as a customer. I went in for new tires and an alignment and was told I needed over $800 for new brakes, calipers, and rotors. My vehicle barely had 40,000 miles on it! I took it to Denchel to look at and all was okay.
By the way - I wrote you in for Hospital Commissioner...I couldn't stomach voting for Gilbertson. |

It is a list of "needed" repairs that the people who pulled one wheel off made to present to me and told me that without these repairs they could not rotate or balance the wheels/tires even though one shows signs of out of balance which they pointed out to me.
It was a procedure that I never expected from this dealer. Both the Suburban and the Geo have full sets of tires purchased from them.
I wonder if Brown knows these things are going on? He was in the office but studiously ignored me standing at the counter. |

Les,
The last time I was in Brown's for a dead battery they determined, by scientific means, that I needed an alternator in addition to a battery. I was in another time for a balance and they determined I needed all four tires replaced and new struts to the tune of $1500. Was I played? The thought does cross my mind when dealing with Brown's. But, they do smile, and give you popcorn, while they are telling you what all you have to have to survive another mile on the road. Just like our city hall 'leaders' do (except no popcorn). So, which one learned from the other?
Good to have you here on this blog Les, keep 'em coming. And, you need to find a nice picture in your photo albums to use. Maybe a ham radio. |
