This afternoon shortly after 1, major traffic accident on I-82 with trapped individual. Prosser Fire toned out. Chief 301 immediately enroute. Engine 34 with 2 from Whitstran Station 320 enroute, several minutes later Rescue(?) 371 enroute with only the driver. After a 2nd tone out, grass rig 363 was enroute with only the driver.
What a great response 5 people total on 2 tone outs? Traffic stacked up, dispatch notified , refused to notify responding units. Dispatch sounds like a trainee. Making nasty remarks about his police coverage does not go out that far. Guess Fire doesn't count.
Something has to give and it looks like it is going to be the County Public. Pay through the nose for nothing? When is there going to be some attention paid to what we are paying for and not getting?

les,

holiday season, VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, they are not paid to sit by the pager 24/7 like a paid department. For someone who bitches about taxes so much, do you really want to pay more to support full time engines/rescues/etc?

Free doesnt equal the best in most cases, this is another example. You get what you pay for.

But only one showed up. Captains newly approved union contract says that they DON'T have to respond. Approved by whom? Did or have you seen it? I requested a copy but have yet to see it. I asked one of the new recruits why he did not respond. "Ah, they don't need me". Sounds like the new motto of the department. Professionalism went out the door with the Deputy Chief and FIRED volunteers.

It ain't gonna get no better until - - -.

Especially if it was your home that caught fire in the last couple years. Please understand that the volunteers perform above and beyond. But how often would you risk your life under a management structure you didn't respect, or personnel you didn't trust? Unfortunately Randy Fox was re-elected this year to the fire board, so you can expect a continued decline in service. [/url]
