Notice in the Prosser paper that the push by the non-elected officials of the "Prosser" Fire District is on-going with formal meetings now scheduled on the subject of a Regional Fire Authority that we will be paying for. One of the comments being made by the newly re-elected BCFD commissioner is that it will make it easier to get money from the residents. One thing that was stated and then shut up was the fact that monies paid by us, the residents, will be used for other legal fire districts. Like 2 and 5 and 6. The city thinks that this agreement is the cats meow. More power to the elected officials of the city and to Hell with the county residents who pay the majority of the taxes to the BCFD who then pay the "Prosser" Fire District for our fire protection. Too bad the state auditor is too lazy to come look at how to set up an illegal fire district.
Oh well. It's only money - and our safety. Time for a shake up!!! |

a new name and more taxes are not going to fix the problems at the fire department. Highly experienced volunteers continue to resign over problems with the current staff. The volunteers are great people and should be recognized for their contributions to our community. But when you don't respect your leadership, there is only so many times you are willing to stick your neck out for them.
More taxes and a new name are not what is needed at the fire department. It's been over three years since the assistant chief and other volunteers left. Obviously, the continuing problems are not their fault. |
