It seems that there is a patrolman on the Prosser force who does not believe in personal rights. Our Grandson was walking to school and was stopped by this patrolman who demanded that he empty his pockets to him. Said that he knew that the kid had items stolen from the Food Depot. Said further that he would arrest him and take him to the station if he did not comply with his order. There was nothing but personal items in his pockets.

I guess that it is common knowledge among the kids at Prosser High that this patrolman is taking personal liberty as no longer guaranteed. Many have been stopped. We had no knowledge of it prior to this instance with the Grandson - but he knows what to do if it happens again. We'll see what the city attorney says about unlawful search and arrest. Or maybe he already knows? Scary thought.

I agree with you Les. I had a friend whose daughter was pulled over for going 27 in a 25 zone. There were 2 cops there. they have nothing better to do than harrass people.

Scoop,

Who was driving? A teenage girl?

I suspect that this traffic stop had more to do with who was driving rather than going 2 miles over the posted limit. I agree that our police department lacks leadership and accountability but, this IS PROSSER.

For those uninformed individuals it is a common practice for Police to provide a backup unit if available in the area, its common officer safety technique. A police officer never knows the situation he/she is walking into, he doesnt know whos on the other side of the door of that car, so when its possible they make it a practice to provide an extra unit for safety reasons. I have seen this technique used around town more often than not.

brunelle, you should know this before you open your mouth. werent you a police officer? or just a bad example of poor emergency vehicle operation training?

The original comment on this thread was based on a potential abuse of power. You made a good point regarding safety procedure, but that was lost once you attacked the other poster.

I knew a friend whose sisters boyfriends dogs playmates owners mother got stopped for doing 1 mph over the speed limit. I know its true because she told me so. I didnt need to ask for a copy of the ticket, or even proof that what she said was true. I knew she wasnt the type of girl that would lie and say she was doing 34mph in a school zone, nahhh she is straight up. People allways admit to what they actually did rather than lie for the sake of making unsubstatiated sensational pity argument. On top of that they had not one but 2 cops there!!! It was like martial law or something. I cant imagine why we would have 2 cops out there looking out for each other. Heck they need to be more like the state patrol, go solo like Trooper Jim Saunders (Rest in peace). Anyway, after they tazed her for no reason they strip searched her right out in public. Yeah those cops sure are a waste of time, especially in Prosser where we have some of the lowest crime stats around, not to mention some of the highest solved cases percentages according to the UCR data website. Yeah those damn cops, I cant wait to move to a more tolerant city.
